Tucson is a quirky little city. You honestly never know what to expect when you attend city events or decide to venture near campus. Though things can get a little weird, Tucson still has some awesome stuff that I absolutely love. For example? The Festival of Books! Every March, the University of Arizona opens up it's grassy mall to vendors and special collectors all showcasing beautiful books. You have local authors and famous authors (Lois Lowry, R.L. Stein just to name a couple!). There is a whole section for kids to experience their favorite characters in person and enjoy multiple story times. And while books are the main attraction the food vendors are also phenomenal. Two years ago I went with my good friend Kate and her mother in law. That day I found a first edition Tales of Shakespeare by Charles and Mary Lamb! FIRST EDITION!!! And that's not even the best part...inside is a dedication from 1912. Finding this book meant so much to me, especially because my Dad would read from this book (a more recent edition of course) when I was little. It's really what started my love for Shakespeare and English Lit in general. Can you tell that I like books?!
It was a really lovely family outing with some of our close friends. If you
are ever in Tucson at the beginning of March, this is what you need to check out!
You can never have enough books....
