Some of my favorite memories from when I was a child were the weekend family adventures. Whether it was going out to eat, exploring a new place, seeing a movie or simply running errands, if we were doing it as a family, it was the best. Even shopping for clothes became fun because my brother Thomas and I would hide in the clothing racks. It really didn't matter at all what we did, just as long as we were all together.
Now as a mother myself, I want to give my kids the same memories. I want the kids to look back fondly on our weekend "adventures". I know that now as a mother I look forward to the weekends just as much as I did when I was little but in a different way. Now, I can't wait to do fun things together as a family and have Andrew's help too!
Recently Andrew and I have been making a point to find places we have never been to before. Now I'm a creature of habit. I know what I like and I like to stick with it. Andrew? He is the real adventurer. He ALWAYS wants to try new things and go to new places. So much to his delight, I have been venturing out of my comfort zone, and giving some new things a try.
A few weekends back, after church we decided to go visit the Mercado San Agustin. It is a gorgeous little square filled with all kinds of unique shops, restaurants and bakeries. Going into it we planned on just getting a little something to eat. Those plans went out the window pretty quickly and we ended spending almost the whole afternoon there.
When we first got there, I convinced Andrew to let me go poke around the wine and cheese shop called Blu. Needless to say I didn't want to leave.
After that we crossed the courtyard over to Stella for some coffee and to Sonoran Sno-Cones for well, you know...sno-cones!
Then we decided to let the boys run around for a little bit. At first all they cared about was their sno-cones but they soon realized that this freedom from the stroller was too good to pass up.
I'd LOVE to see this place all lit up at night!
After we spent some time playing, Andrew and I decided to get something to eat from Seis.
We were not disappointed.
Yes. These nachos do taste as heavenly as they look.
Another adventure in the books for the Starbuck family. We left the Mercado pretty exhausted but content with an afternoon well spent. If you're in Tucson (or even just AZ) make sure you check out the Mercado San Agustin!
